The Importance of Parent Involvement

It takes a village. Researchers consistently correlate students’ academic success with parental involvement. According to Henderson and Berla (1994), “the most accurate predictor of a student’s achievement in school is not income or social status, but the extent to which that student’s family is able to:

  • Create a home environment that encourages learning
  • Express high (but not unrealistic) expectation for their children’s achievement and future careers
  • Become involved in their children’s education at school and in the community (p.160)

American School Fes

The American School of Fes – Amicitia aims to develop the whole child. In order to do this successfully, parental involvement is paramount. Parents can play a variety of roles both within the school campus, ranging from volunteers in the classroom to attendants at our monthly education lecture series, and within the home. Encouraging your child to do their homework, maintaining an open dialogue about their academic and personal lives, and encouraging your student to develop relationships with their teachers and classmates are all effective ways to be involved in your child’s learning.
