Arts

The arts are a cornerstone of the education facilitated at the American School of Fes – Amicitia. In addition to aiding cognitive development and fine motor skills, the arts provide students with a platform for self-expression, exploration, and cultural understanding.
General music classes are offered beginning in preschool and continued through high school. Rhythm, singing, hand drumming, and basic note reading are taught to every student and used as the foundation for higher-level classes. .
Preschool and elementary students have visual art classes every week. Middle and high school students are offered art courses as semester-long electives. Art classes have ranged from general art classes to specific courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. .

Our theater program also begins in preschool. Participation in this program helps students develop confidence in speaking and performing in front of their peers and other audiences. To date, Amicitia has put on John Synge’s Riders to the Sea , Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story, Checkhov’s The Boor, and Bernard Pomerance’s The Elephant Man, Oliver, the Wizard of Oz, and Alice in Wonderland. .
The students' music and art is celebrated and shared in a number of different venues, including our annual events including Night of Art, Amicitia's Got Talent, Poetry Night, and more.
